Lorna Hannett SFCA

Artist’s Statement

I have always had a fascination for the beauty of nature and its many moods and Lorna Hannettelements. Living in a rural setting, I am surrounded and inspired every day, in all seasons. I also love to study people, adults and children alike, and try to capture each individual’s expressive nature in the portraits I do. I feel privileged to be able to express my love of nature and people through my art work and hope in some small measure that it will bring a certain amount of pleasure to those who view it.

Biography

Primarily self taught, Lorna has taken numerous workshops to further her artistic abilities. She uses a variety of mediums including acrylics, watercolor, colored pencil, graphite and her favorite, scratchboard. After teaching herself to use this medium, Lorna has experimented and pushed boundaries with it.  In doing so, she has garnered recognition and won many awards both nationally and internationally and had her work featured in several magazines, including the International Artists Magazine.

Lorna is one of the Founders of and President of the International Society of Scratchboard Artists (ISSA) and is a Master Scratchboard Artist. (MSA) She is a senior Signature member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (SFCA) She has also been juried into, shown with and won a number of awards with FCA (Federation of Canadian Artists), ASA (Alberta Society of Artists) and the CIPA (Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists).  Most recently she was awarded Best in Show Gold, Master Category for her work entitled “Pears Reflected” at the 1st Annual ISSA exhibition in California.

Lorna  resides in the picturesque area of Burns Lake, British Columbia with her husband. She works in her home studio and also teaches students the fine art of scratching, both privately and at workshops.
